Sinking the Penna Winze at Laronde Extension Project:
Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd.

Commodity: Gold (Au)

In October 2007, Dumas was awarded the Penna Winze Project which involved sinking an 820 meter circular concrete winze, starting at 2,060 meters below surface. This was the third consecutive shaft sinking project Agnico-Eagle commissioned Dumas to deliver following the successes of the Lapa and Goldex projects.

Working in close partnership with Agnico-Eagle, Dumas initiated a precise logistical plan to carry out our contracting activities in parallel with the mine’s operations.

Dumas conducted the project by sinking a five-stage Galloway which was assembled entirely underground with the use of three one-boom shaft jumbos and a Cryderman hydraulic clam shovel fixed to the bottom of the Galloway.

Concurrent to this project, Dumas excavated three stations and a respective forty meters of lateral development. Additionally, Dumas constructed, installed and commissioned the underground hoist and hoist room, ventilation system, electrical stations, loading pockets, dumping chutes and all shaft and station hardware.
