Central Shaft Rehabilitation Concurrent with Production at Yauliyacu:
Empresa Minera Los Quenuales S.A. (Glencore)
Commodity: Zinc (Zn), Lead (Pb), Silver (Ag)
The Yauliyacu mine is located near Lima, Peru, and has been in continuous production for over 100 years. This project was awarded in April 2011 and involves rehabilitation of the central shaft; it is the first phase of a guide change and production increase for the shaft.
The shaft is 430 meters deep and the collar elevation is at 4,200 meters AMSL. Since the shaft rehabilitation work is being done concurrent with production, it is being undertaken on a backshift to minimize disruption to production activities.
Work commenced in May 2010, and there is one more year of rehabilitation required before increasing hoist speed and deepening the shaft.
